“Phylum Ctenophora” is a collection of bio-inspired lamps that draw inspiration from ctenophores, translucent marine organisms known for their ethereal beauty and invasive nature. These beings, often referred to as “comb jellies,” are characterized by bi-radial symmetry and sinuous movements—features that the project translates into luminous, sculptural forms.
The lamps are crafted using transparent materials and advanced lighting technologies, creating visual effects that echo the iridescence and transparency typical of ctenophores. Each piece’s design aims to capture the essence of these organisms, transforming their morphological traits into aesthetic and functional elements.
The project is part of a broader research initiative exploring the intersection of art, science, and technology. Through the use of advanced prototyping techniques and a multidisciplinary approach, the lab investigates new modes of expression and communication, emphasizing the importance of conscious and responsible design.
Phylum Ctenophora has been exhibited in various shows and has garnered the interest of critics and enthusiasts alike for its ability to merge aesthetics and content, offering a sensory experience that invites contemplation and awareness.
